Learn about our history, mission, and the community we serve in Sithalapakkam, Chennai.
The land for Masjidul Bilal was allotted by TNHB in 1996, and the mosque was founded in 2010 as the Muslim population of Sithalapakkam slowly grew. The masjid began functioning in February 2016, the same year its Kids Madarasa and Ladies Bayan were launched, followed by a dedicated Ladies Madarasa led by a female Aalima in 2023. It has since grown into a permanent, well-maintained structure serving the area's booming population, following the Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jama'at tradition.
Ramadan traditions. During the holy month, the mosque becomes a centre of intense communal activity — hosting nightly Taraweeh prayers and organising neighbourhood Iftar meals that foster a strong sense of brotherhood.
Location and connectivity. Strategically positioned in Sithalapakkam, the mosque offers a meditative environment while remaining accessible to the transit arteries connecting Medavakkam, Sholinganallur, and Tambaram. Its proximity to Perumbakkam–Sithalapakkam Road and the OMR tech corridor makes it a convenient prayer stop for IT professionals and residents.
Quiet sanctuary. Frequently praised for its peaceful atmosphere and orderly management, the mosque offers worshippers a meditative retreat away from the primary commercial thoroughfares.
Named after Hazrat Bilal Ibn Rabah, the first Muezzin of Islam, Masjidul Bilal is dedicated to the values of equality and steadfast devotion he embodied. We serve as the spiritual anchor for Sithalapakkam's Muslim community — a place for the five daily prayers, Qur'anic education, and support for those in need.
Provide a clean, welcoming space for the five daily prayers and Jumu'ah for everyone in the community.

Support families in need through bayans, and connection to wider community resources.
A timeline of growth, faith, and community milestones.
The Tamil Nadu Housing Board (TNHB) allotted this land in Sithalapakkam, laying the foundation for what would become Masjidul Bilal.
As the Muslim population of Sithalapakkam slowly grew, Masjidul Bilal was founded to serve the early families of the community.
In February 2016, the masjid began functioning. The Kids Madarasa and weekly Ladies Bayan were also launched the same year, serving children and women in the community.
The masjid reached a milestone of over 500 families actively participating in daily prayers, Madarasa programs, Ramadan Taraweeh, and community welfare activities.
A dedicated Ladies Madarasa was launched, led by a qualified female Aalima, offering Islamic education to the women and girls of the community.
Today, Masjidul Bilal stands as a thriving Islamic centre with 50+ Madarasa students, five daily prayers, Jumu'ah, and year-round community and charitable programs.
